How To Train Your Dog To Roll Over

Training your dog to "rollover' is part of the dog obedience training commands that your dog needs to learn. This command is just another part of his learning experience that stimulates his mind and gives a great opportunity for you the owner and your dog to communicate and spend time together.

Here is a simple technique outlined in 5 steps to train your dog to rollover:

step1. 1st, train your dog to sit. You can do this simply by giving him a treat each and every time he sits, and by saying,"Yes,good boy" the second it happens.

step2. Next, train your dog to lay down in the same way.Refer to the earlier lesson about training your dog to lay down. Using a motion of the finger moving it from up to down to signal that he needs to go down works.

step3. While your dog is laying down with his head up, use your hand out reached as if you were pushing him to the side, but don't actually do it. Only show him in which direction you want him to lay down his head(Any gesture will work as long as you are consistent). Call this move, "Nap time." Reward him with a treat as soon as he does it.

step4. Once your dog has mastered "sit," "down," and "nap time," it is time for "roll-over." Simply do this by waving the treat in front of his nose and motion it so that if he moves his body he will get it. Give him a gentle push to the other side if he doesn't get it, and the whole time say, "Roll-over."

step5. The second your dog starts to turn his body, say, "Yes,good boy!" and keep turning the treat in front of his face  to the direction you want him to turn. When he accomplishes this feat, reward him generously with treats and praises! Repeat as often as neccessary and remember that a trained dog is a healthy dog!
